A DOCUMENTARY

REVEALING QUEER STORIES

FROM UGANDA

“We need to talk about what is happening: the human rights violations and the unfairness. To let people everywhere else in the world know what is really happening. Because if we don’t, they win. They know that you can’t even report, and maybe you don’t even have allies. You don’t even have friends who can actually come and have your back. Or, you don’t even have the solidarity for a worldwide movement.”  –  AMANDA

Listen to the whispers of queer people in Uganda

In March 2023 the Anti-Homosexuality Act was passed in Uganda, making homosexuality a crime. This law forced queer people in Uganda to hide their identities out of fear of prosecution, harassment, and extreme violence.

These are the stories of seven of those people.

Background

We are a group of independent filmmakers from the Netherlands. From our contacts in Uganda, we’ve heard about how the LGBTQ+ community in Uganda is severely persecuted, intimidated, and threatened after the installment of the Anti-Homosexuality Act in May last year. Sadly, activists and human rights lawyers have had to stop their work or have fled the country. The stories about how LGBTQ+ people in Uganda are rejected, betrayed, and disinherited by their own families, friends, and neighbors are atrocious.

Synopsis

The documentary portrays stories from LGBTQ+ people in Uganda. We are giving a voice to a group stripped of their humanity. These people want nothing more than to be who they are and to be accepted for who they are. In a time when Uganda’s queer voices are being silenced, we’re here to bring you their whispers.

I am human

I am loved

And this is who I am

Donate

The proceeds of this documentary will be used to help the LGBTQ+ community in Uganda.

We are in contact with underground human rights activists who help people from the community with legal assistance, medical support, skill building, and basic human needs such as food and shelter.

Some groups we support do community outreach to bridge the gap between LGBTQ+ and non-LGBTQ+ people.

As a foundation, we do not profit in any way from donations or any money we might make from the documentary.

United, we stand.
